Cloud Computing
Cloud computing is delivery of services through the Internet. With cloud computing you get resources that includes applications like data storage, servers, databases, networking and software.
Why keep files on a hard drive or local storage when cloud computing makes it possible to save them on a remote database. All you need is an electronic device that has access to the web to access all your data and software.
There are a few benefits that you receive when going the cloud route. It includes cost savings, increased productivity, speed and efficiency, performance and security.
We can use third party cloud computing providers that requires monthly payment to get all the resources we need. They provide and control the resources and we can save a huge amount of setting up infrastructure.
There are different types of cloud computing to consider:
- Software as a service (SaaS) - This involves the licensure of a software application to customers. Licenses are provided through pay-as-you-go model or on demand.
- Infrastructure as a service (IaaS) - This method involves the delivering everything from operating systems to servers and storage through IP-based connectivity as part of an on-demand service. Clients can avoid the need to purchase software or servers, and instead procure these resources in an outsource, on demand service. Popular examples includes IBM Cloud and Microsoft Azure.
- Platform as a service (PaaS) - This is the most complex of the three layers of cloud-based computing. PaaS shares some similarities with SaaS, the primary difference being that instead of delivering software online, it is actually a platform for creating software that is delivered via the Internet.
